Porsche 928

This car has been sold. It has a great new home in Oregon.

I moved to a Porsche 944 Turbo S to pursue competitive driving more seriously. I was then forced to get (though with little reluctance) a 2002 BMW M3.

Black on black 1990 928GT with dark rootwood interior, one of about 100 US GT cars for that year and a joy to drive. Liberated from the FBI, who took it from a 'bad guy'. Got it with only 27,000 miles on it. I drove it up to 75,000 total miles and the car just got better with each tweek, the latest of which is a 5.4 liter motor that is monstrously powerful (see below).

Unfortunately, I had to sell the car.

Modifications include:

Engine
  • 5.4L 1995 928 GTS engine with 45,000 original miles
  • MSDS headers
  • Random Technology 3.5" high-flow catalytic converter
  • 3.5" stainless backpipe to the Borla XR-1 racing muffler
  • AutoThority chipset optimized for GTS engine and headers
  • +0.2 bar (from stock) adjustable rising-rate fuel pressure regulator
     Suspension & Brakes
  • Devek internally-adjustable Koni shock / Hypercoil spring coilovers
  • Devek heavy duty adjustable front anti-sway bar
  • Gas-slotted front rotors
  • Pagid Orange brake pads
  • 67%/33% front/rear brake bias valve

I changed to the "C2 Turbo" style 17" wheels from Mille Miglia, now mounted with Bridgestone S02 Pole Position 225/45-17 fronts and 265/40-17 rears. I previously had the fantastic BF Goodrich GForce KD 225/45-17 and 255/40-17 tires, which were a tad scary in the wet. I also installed the Valentine One detector, see installation details. See Links (below) for company details.

Dyno I dyno-tested the car a second time on June 17, 2000 at RPM in Novato. The car did even better than it had at the Devek Day test the year before (see old results), making about 298 horsepower at the rear wheels. Click the thumbnail to the left to see the results. I will dyno the car again when the 5.4 liter rebuild is complete. I expect over 330 hp at the wheels.

Through the months of May and June, 2000, we went on a long trip, the car and I. I drove 12,000 miles cross-country and back starting May 4, 1999. It was a photographic, SCUBA, fun, family and car related trip. I maintained a web site with all the goings-on as they happened at http://www.thereandback.com.

  Pictures
Waiting for our run group... Thunderhill Park race track in Willows, CA. Taken in August, 1999. Porsche 993 C4S, BMW M3 and Acura NSX in background. Badass Tim poses by the 993.
Ramming Speeeed Bonneville International Speedway (the Bonneville Salt Flats) outside Salt Lake City, Utah. Taken on my road trip on June 21, 1999.
A Decent Upgrade This would certainly make a pretty decent upgrade to the 928, though fuel economy would be even worse. Taken in May of 2000 at the Pacific Coast Air Museum.
928 in Carmel Pretty shot of the car along 17 Mile Drive near Pebble Beach, Carmel, CA. Taken in January of 1999.
Racetrack Atmosphere My friend Nick took this shot one day at Thunderhill Raceway using a plastic point-and-shoot made by Holga. The effect is great, especially with black-and-white film.
Bad Bad Car I thought this would make a decent Porsche ad. I shot this in the Badlands of South Dakota on my cross-country trip in the summer of 1999.
928GT front A shot of the car taken while driving it down from Seattle, just after I bought it in July of 1998. Taken near the Oregon coast.
Uh Oh! This is a cute tourist attraction in O'Brien, Oregon. I pulled a fast, illegal u-turn to park there. I was surprised at the crowd the car drew; it took five minutes to shoo people out of the picture long enough to take it.

Concours d'Elegance and Concorso Italiano:
  Concorso Italiano 2002
  Concorso Italiano 2000
  Concorso Italiano 1999
Concorso Italiano & Monterey Historics 1998

I traditionally attend the annual Concours d'Elegance at Pebble Beach (Carmel), California. There are also the (usually more exciting) Concorso Italiano at Quail Lodge, the Monterey Historic Car Races at Laguna Seca, and the Monterey Sports Car Auction at the Doubletree Hotel.

  Parts Wanted
Since I've sold the car, I'm not looking for anything for it.
