Philippines - January 2000

Somewhat on a whim, I joined my friends Gerard and Don for a trip to the Philippines. I met up with them on the island of Panay on December 28 and we traveled together on Panay (Ibajay, Kalibo), Boracay, Palawan, and Luzon (Manila). We spent New Year's on the island of Boracay, which was one big party. The people were incredibly generous hosts. I loved the country and hope to return soon.

Fighting Cock This is Gerard's uncle's prized fighting cock. Taken in Ibajay, on Panay Island, a few days before the New Year.
Commuters The Philippine people never ceased to amaze me with how many people they could pile onto/into a vehicle. This was a typical motorcycle load. I saw as many as six on one diminutive motorcycle. Taken the in early January.
The Rock on Boracay This is known as The Rock. It's the images most frequently associated with the beautiful resort island of Boracay, just off the northwest coast of Panay. Taken the day before the New Year.
Marketplace on Boracay We went shopping on Boracay, though I failed to buy the Visayan carved lizard I spotted, much to my later chagrin. Notice the incredilbe tangle of electrical wires. Taken the day before the New Year.
Palawan Dock Here's the harbor on the west coast of Palawan, from which we sailed to the resort on Dos Palmas. Taken from the boat in early January.
Sunset Over Palawan A Stunning sunset over Palawan, taken from the boat off the coast of Palawan in early January.
