Cozumel, Mexico - June 1998

My buddy Raffi and I stayed at Scuba Club Cozumel, aka The Galapago, for a week. Great food, fantastic diving, little time for photos . . .

Scuba Club Cozumel, aka Galapago Here's the resort. This is their photograph, as taken (though re-sized) from their website. My shots didn't do it justice.
Buddha, and Me Juan, better known as Buddha, is seemingly known all over the island. He's fun, alternately serious and jocular, a devoted dad, and of pure Mayan descent. He took time to joke with us, teach us Spanish and Mayan, and go drinking with us. He's a deckhand on the Observer, one of the dive boats.
Raffi and Me Raffi and I clowned around a bit under water. We took this picture ourselves.
The Great Grouper Groper In fact, Raffi couldn't keep his hands off anything. Here he's poking at some big angelfish. He 'petted' numerous groupers, eels, and even, briefly, a barracuda. He's now known as the Grouper Groper. Better that than Nine-Finger Raffi.
Sunset Siesta.
