My Dad and I toured China and Hong Kong for three weeks that summer with a group of
physicians and nurses.
I remember Chinese students approaching me as I walked alone through Beijing listening
to my WalkMan. They were eager to practice their English. They'd listen to my
headphones and cry "Oh, Metro! Berlin! Okay!" I shot lots of film but got very
few good pictures.
Here's one taken during a river boat cruise up the Li River.
I was fascinated by this Buddhist monk at a temple in Beijing. The
juxtaposition of the modern hose being used to clean the ancient temple
struck a chord in me, even then.
