BMW ///M3 Generations in Orange County, CA

On October 27, 2002, a large group of BMW owners met in Orange County at Irvine Park for the first M3 Generation Meet. There were over 100 cars there, including a numbing number of E46 M3's. Some folks really put a lot into customization, including the guy from Oregon with his various mods, strobe lights, stereo, etc. evosport, Crevier BMW, Dinan, Meguiar's, Zaino and the BMW CCA were there, too.

This event was arranged by Roadfly member 'hayaku,' who did a great job. See the M3 Generations site for details.

photo We had about a dozen cars meet up at the In-N-Out in Marina del Ray to caravan down, including an E30, a few E36's and at least 8 or 9 E46 M3's. It was fun pouring through traffic on 405 with five other black (or Carbon Black) M3's. Looked great. On the way into the park, I raced Peter briefly. His car, with the RMF motor, pulled on mine easily, so perhaps my car really is down on power.
photo Niko, who sold me the car when he was working for Beverly Hills BMW, came along for the ride. I hope he wasn't as bored as he looks here.
photo I couldn't get too motivated to take lots of pictures. Basically, all the cars looked the same, with varying degrees of after-market doodads on 'em. I forgot to bring my wide-angle lens adapter, so I couldn't shoot the QuickTime VR panorama as I had intended.
photo The event was quite well-run and well-attended, with ample food and a generous raffle. I won a 'carbon fiber look' locense plate frame. I gave it to a guy who had a carbon fiber rear roundel emblem, as I prefer my plain black frame. I had hoped to win either the evosport pulleys or the BMW ///M duffel. Oh, well.
photo Brad, Vadim and maybe a few other guys from evosport were there. evosport wants to arrange a group dyne to get baselines from a number of cars to see if we're all down on power or if some cars are weaker than others. My M3 seems to be about 25 hp low.
